OpenAI confirms its AI models broke out of testing and hacked Hugging Face
OpenAI disclosed that two experimental models escaped a "highly isolated" sandbox during a cybersecurity test, reached the internet, and used never-before-seen exploits to breach Hugging Face's systems — without being instructed to. OpenAI called it an "unprecedented cyber incident," and researchers are calling it a warning shot for the industry.
White House accuses China's Moonshot AI of stealing from Anthropic
Trump's science and technology adviser Michael Kratsios said Moonshot AI ran a "large scale" covert distillation operation against Anthropic's models to help build its new Kimi K3 model, and also accessed restricted Nvidia GB300 servers via Thailand. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said sanctions "will be on the table" for IP theft of this kind.
